Orchids Orchids Everywhere

Updated on March 28, 2015

Ode to My Husband's Orchids...I love them!

Forgive me, if I "wax eloquent" about my husband's blooms;

Their beauty decorates our house - they're found in all our rooms.

Some ablaze with color; some large, some minuscule,

No matter what their size or shape; in our home, ORCHIDS rule!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
P.S. My husband grows these gorgeous orchids, and this is the only way you're "gonna see 'em"!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Orchidmania!

That is what I call the affliction that pervades our domicile!

Too elegant for words...
Too elegant for words...

Ode to the Orchids ~ Part 1

Orchids, orchids, everywhere, oh, what a sight to see! They cover all our living space, and quite exquisitely...

If you could see their loveliness, I know that you'd agree, that you've never seen such orchids, that bloom so magically!

They decorate our counters, in lavender and pink, my husband grows these orchids, as fast as I can blink.

They're lined up on the windowsills, they're sitting in the sink. Watch out for the orchids, if you need to get a drink!

Another of my husband's gorgeous orchids.
Another of my husband's gorgeous orchids.

Ode to the Orchids ~ Part 2

The orchids that we love so, cover every inch of space. They're here and there, and anywhere, that we can find a place.

Each night he puts an orchid on the table, in a vase. They decorate our domicile, with elegance and grace.

I think that some are angels, I think that some are weird. He even has a green one, that appears to grow a beard.

There's some that look like insects, which suddenly appeared. Some masquerade as aliens - of which I am "afeared"!

This orchid was spectacular, and large, too!
This orchid was spectacular, and large, too!

Ode to the Orchids ~ Part 3

Oh, the splendor of the orchids! No words cannot be applied, within the English language; I KNOW, for I have tried.

I'm at a loss with orchids, they can NOT be described. The truth that they're magnificent just cannot be denied.

One day, as I was watching, one opened to the sun. I happened just to be there, when its blooming had begun.

It slowly and so gently turned its face into the sun - I froze in awesome wonder, 'til its opening was done.

I simply could not "get over" how deep the color was in this little orchid.

Ode to the Orchids ~ Part 4

He inherited his green thumb, when he was just a lad. His father grew such flowers! So, he learned it from his dad.

I wish I had his talent - it's one I've never had. If the plant is called an ORCHID - he'll grow it, and I'm glad!

So, the orchids cover everything, the floor, the porch, the wall - and we enjoy their beauty; winter, summer, spring, and fall.

My husband's gift is awesome, but you might like to recall - that he just tends the orchids - God's Hands made them all!

One more of his beautiful orchids.
One more of his beautiful orchids.

A Lot More of His Beautiful Orchids...

...can be seen below.

In some of our other articles, we showed you our weird orchids, our Alien Orchids, our Elegant Orchids, the Weird Orchids, and our Angel Orchids . Here, we are going to show you the rest. Hope you enjoy them, as we do, and....there are more! I only have so much time in the day, to take and crop, orchid photos, so...

Here's ONE BEAUTY to start you off, and then...see the orchid photos in the galleries below. There are LOTS of them, and every one of them is grown by my husband!

Do they look REAL, or not? I saw them bloom, photographed them, drank in their glamorous fragrance, and I STILL cannot believe they are real!Another study in contrast - so sweet, so delicate, such a deep "throat" - breath-takingly beautiful, this one.How does God DO that? Pure white and sparkling or is it startling burgundy, here?He is a lean, mean, green fighting machine!Another one of our tiny Baby Orchids, come home to stay...Oh, my word! When this one blooms - it is intensely unbelievable!Doesn't this look like it was freshly painted?This lovely yellow orchid reminds me of a daffodil every time I see it. Isn't it lovely?I would swear, if I did, that this half-clown, half-elegant Orchid is really mixed-up!Shades of lime green and lemon here - they look good enough to eat!

Well, these were blooming over the sink! Aren't they just spectacularly striking? Who could NOT love this duo?Another one that loved the sink! After he got watered, he just hung around on the counter, sticking his tongue out at the rest of the gang. Yeah, he's rude, and crude - but keeps himself clean, so we keep him.This one is a rabble rouser! The moment he hit the sink area, he took off running - look at his L-O-N-G legs! They are meek, quiet, sweet, and sensible. Nary a peep out of either one. I just love 'em....These two are like the previous ones - quiet, well-behaved, and always welcome! They deserve their botanical name given, or part of it, anyway. They are called Laelia Rubescens, and as lovely a sink-dwelling orchid as you would like.Oh, dear! They're at it, again! This bunch just yells - all the time - non-stop! They think it is there business to keep everyone of the Kitchen Sink orchids apprised of the latest up-to-date happenings in the Orchid World. I wouldn't MIND so much, bHere's my "bouncer". He helps my husband keep the other Sink Orchids in line - we can't always be there, 'ya know? That's what he's called, but this one, Gepetto didn't make - he has hairy arms, and a pouch! Who ever heard of Pinocchio, with a pouch? Just my all-time favorite red one! It glistens, it sparkles, it shines, and it's red goes on and on.They all wanted to be in the picture - so, I told them to "figure it out". Simply one of the most beautiful orchids in this group. You'll never catch this "proper lady" misbehavin'! She is C-L-A-S-S, all the way!Ah! Nicely done, huh? This one is a sweetie, and never listens to gossip - it even has its hands up, to cover its ears, lest it hear something inappropriate, or unnecessary.The Speckled Trout Orchid - no, I did NOT put those dots there - I'm too busy, and besides, this one is too conceited to pay it THAT much attention. It's a gossip, too - look at those ears, wouldja?Oh, boy - this little sweetie is really a "keeper"! You can see he's young, and just trying out his wings. I had to rescue him a couple of times when he crashed, but with 600 hours of flight time ahead of him, I know he'll learn!Looks like another Angel Orchid - she's related to one of ours, but not the same gal.An up-and-coming star in our talent show, here. This one is teaching the others how to play their "lips" like a trumpet...of course, some of them don't have bell-shaped lips like he does, so we are pampering a bunch of f-r-u-s-t-r-a-t-e-d orchids!One of our Angel Orchids, who just got her wings!These two are a riot! They give the baby orchids rides, down their L-O-N-G lips - splash! - right into the sink. Now, that's fine, during daylight hours, but all of the splashing, and giggling and clamoring keeps my husband awake! P.S. Nothing keeps A newly birthed Baby Angel Orchid - its wings are so BIG, in proportion to its body, that it took off, right after birth. I hastily snatched it, and saved it from sure destruction, against the window pane. See how tiny it is? It's a miracle it didn'tNow, for those of you who like SHOCKING PINK, we have on display, in the kitchen, one that "almost" fits the bill. It forgot to be pink in the middle...oh, well...

The lighting was poor, but that's what she looks like.The little lavender lassie - she's shy - hiding deep inside the Orchid!Little yellow pitchers have big ears, and a RED tongue, too!

Ode to the Orchids ~ Part 5

We have - orchids on the counter, orchids by the sink.

Orchids that have red hues, orchids that are pink.

Our home's an orchid garden, their scent perfumes the air,

The orchids have invaded - we have orchids everywhere!

What Orchids Does He Grow?

My husband grows:

  • Vandas
  • Schomburgkias
  • Dendrobiums
  • Bulbophyllums
  • Epidendrums
  • Encyclias
  • Brassavolas
  • Catesetums
  • Cymbidiums
  • Laelias
  • Oncidium

...and some that I have not identified yet. If it is an orchid - he grows it!

My husband has most likely grown every type of orchid that is described in this wonderful book. If you know anyone who loves orchids, and want to get them something they will enjoy year after year, take a look at this book!

Need we say more? If you liked looking at our amateur photos of the orchids grown in our home, you will LOVE looking at the professional photos in the New Encyclopedia of Orchids. The book covers 1500 different species. My husband grew over 3000 different orchids!

If You Enjoyed the Orchids...

Did you like the photos? Do you grow orchids? Would you like to see more?

Check out our other ORCHID HUBS, because there are hundreds more orchid photos that I just cannot put up at the moment - I have to go settle down the uprising in the kitchen, amongst the "Sink Orchids"! You think they would know, by now, that I am not to be reckoned with, but they are s-l-o-w learners, to say the least. My husband loves them so, and they know it - which puts me in the dubiously coveted position of disciplinarian.

Later, y'all - off I GO! OH! Before I do - any ideas about how to "corral" the Sink Orchids? They DRAIN me - pun intended!

Some of our other Orchid Hubs are below. Please take a moment to explore them:
